What if a junk in a closet could become an investment? That’s exactly what happened to me. It all started with a fancy drone that I bought with all my savings. I spent nearly $1000 & right now it’s losing its value every day. I have used it twice or thrice to catch some unique shots during travelling. But gradually it becomes an expensive shelf decoration. I don’t have time to explore it more. Work pressure got crazy. Trips also got cancelled frequently. One day, out of frustration & guilt, I decided to rent out the drone, though I had fear that it could be damaged by the user and all. I wasn’t expecting to get a response that fast, but I got a message the day after I posted from an event management company. It was needed for taking shots at a beach wedding ceremony. I was excited but extremely nervous thinking about the well-being of the drone. But guess what — boom! Nothing negative happened & got my first rental income from it. After a week, a farmer reached out to me and asked for the drone for agricultural mapping. I was a little shocked because I never thought of utilising it this way but gave him immediately. He returned it, saying, ‘You saved my thousands. Thank you so much’. He basically used it to spot pest-infected areas to take necessary precautions. He also said, ‘I want to rent it every month! It’s very handy and useful to me’. That is the moment the idea hit me. I have realised, not only wedding functions, photoshoots, making vlogs or videos need this for entertainment purposes, but also real businesses can benefit by using it wisely. I started targeting the farming communities, offering to the construction managers, moreover, rescue operation teams who can avail the best use of it. For them, I make renting easy by creating different packages such as per day, per hour, per week or for longer periods. Therefore, my single drone wasn’t enough to handle the pressure! Certainly, guess what, bought two more drones with the rental income, which are smarter than the previous one and specially designed for surveying and mapping. Big Lesson A thing that has low value or is worthless to me at all can be so valuable to another person. So, a waste of my house can be a silent opportunity for investment. Like my dusty old drone had become my ticket to rescue my finances.
